Silence

Silence by Becca Fitzpatrick

Release Date: October 4, 2011
Publisher: Children's Publishing
Pages: Hardcover (438pgs)
Age Group: YA
Genre: Paranormal
Author Website: h
Overall Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Description: The noise between Patch and Nora is gone. They've overcome the secrets riddled in Patch's dark past...bridged two irreconcilable worlds...faced heart-wrenching tests of betrayal, loyalty and trust...and all for a love that will transcend the boundary between heaven and earth. Armed with nothing but their absolute faith in one another, Patch and Nora enter a desperate fight to stop a villain who holds the power to shatter everything they've worked for—and their love—forever

Review: After reading Crescendo I had to wait a very long year for Silence. It was well worth the wait. Silence picks up right where Crescendo left off. In this book we find out what happens to Nora, Patch, Vee, Simon, Marcia, Rixon, and Hank. This book was action packed right from the beginning. The writing was fantastic as always, and the story just flowed perfectly.

Nora has lost her memory and she does not remember anything that has happened in the last 5 months. You can tell that Nora is struggling with her memory loss and she knows there is something missing and she is trying to fill in the gaps. She relies on her best friend Vee and her mother to help her fill in the gaps. Her mother and Vee  don't help her at all. Once again I couldn't stand Vee in this book. I just think the story line behind Vee is too annoying and forced. I'm hoping that her character gets better in the next book, so she can be redeemed in my eyes.

Patch is just awesome as ever. I went through withdrawals and I love him even more after reading this book. He is a perfect Knight in shinning armor. He struggles with what he wants the most in life and what is the right thing to do.

The ending was just fantastic. It was a perfect set up to the 4th installment in the series. I'm excited to find out what happens. Another long year to wait to see what happens between Patch and Nora.

Wicked Lovely

Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr

Release Date: June 12, 2007
Publisher: Harper Teen
Pages: Hardcover (328pgs)
Age Group: YA
Genre: Fantasy
Author Website:
Overall Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Description: All teenagers have problems, but few of them can match those of Aislinn, who has the power to see faeries. Quite understandably, she wishes that she could share her friends' obliviousness and tries hard to avoid these invisible intruders. But one faery in particular refuses to leave her alone. Keenan the Summer King is convinced beyond all reasoning that Aislinn is the queen he has been seeking for nine centuries. What's a 21st-century girl to do when she's stalked by a suitor nobody else can see? A debut fantasy romance for the ages; superlative summer read.

Review: I absolutely enjoyed reading this book. All the characters are just fantastic. I love Aislinn. She is a down to earth girl that just wants to go to school and hang out with her friends. She just wants to have a simple life. Unfortunately it does not work out that way for her. She has lived with the ability to see faeries. Everyone in her family has this ability. Throughout the book we discover all the obstacles she has to overcome.

There is a love triangle between Aislinn, Keenan the Summer King, and her friend Seth. I absolutely love Seth. He is my ideal guy. He has tattoos and piercings all over, but he is a kind and understanding person. Seth is very affectionate with Aislinn that I just had to keep reading for him.

The only issue I had with the book is that is jumps back and forth between different perspectives throughout the book. The writing is fantastic and the story just flowed. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of this series.

Insight Blog Tour

About the author: Jamie Magee has always believed that each of us have a defining gift that sets us apart from the rest of the world, she has always envied those who have known from their first breath what their gift was. Not knowing hers, she began a career in the fast paced world of business. Raising a young family, and competing to rise higher in that field would drive some to the point of insanity, but she always found a moment of escape in a passing daydream. Her imagination would take her to places she'd never been, introduce her to people she's never known. Insight, her debuting novel, is a result of that powerful imagination. Today, she is grateful that not knowing what defined her, led her on a path of discovery that would always be a part of her.

Description: Some say that dreams are the doorway to the soul. Willow Haywood is no stranger to that doorway. Each night she shares a blissful, silent dream with a stunning blue-eyed boy. With each new moon she is haunted by a painful nightmare shared with a different boy, who’s always hidden by the shadows.
In her waking hours she must battle her sixth sense. The one that allows her to feel others emotions as if they were her own. This insight is exhausting and frustrating causing her to draw inward, only trusting her family and few close friends. Oddly, this sense also attracts ghostly images that seem to appear out of nowhere. With a touch, they take her to wherever they may be, allowing her to change their emotion. This alone would cause most to go insane, but Willow filters her aggression by painting, capturing the emotion she changed.
One August night a nightmare came days after the new moon. In this dream the shadowed boy marked her wrist with star, leaving her father no choice but to share a family secret that would tie all of the odd attributes of Willow’s life together. Now, she has no choice but to outrun the fate that is closing in around her.
In an attempt to lure her, the shadowed figure captures her closest friends. In order to save them, she must weave through broken myths, half truths, and the undeniable power of the Zodiac. With each step she takes Willow comes to realize that she has lived before, her path is one that she chose, and this trial is simply the beginning.

Review: I absolutely loved the main characters Willow and Landen. Willow is this down to earth artistic teenager that everyone loves. She did not have your normal up bringing. She has a special ability. She can feel the emotions of the people around her. Also she sees images of people that need her help to find peace.

Landen is strong and handsome with gorgeous eyes. He too has special abilities. He can sense what peoples intentions are. The love story between Willow and Landen is great. I absolutely love it. I enjoyed reading the love story between them and how it was written. Its sweet and romantic.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It was a great easy read. I have never read a book where they base things off a person zodiac sign. It was interesting how they discussed the planets alignments when a person was born. Also how people live in different dimensions, and they can travel to find their true love. I really liked the imagery in this book. As I was reading I could see all this happening in my head very vividly. I love it when I read books that are like that because I get to lose myself while I'm reading.

Description: Not many Scorpio’s are known for their patience, and Willow Haywood is no different. Her only desire is to love Landen Chambers and redeem the lost souls of Esterious, but the path to that desire is long, dark and dangerous...

Before Willow’s life had a chance to balance the sudden revelations and grief she had to endure to get to Chara a disturbing discovery is made. A photo, one that shows Willow blissfully embracing the flawless image of Drake Blakeshire; giving her not only proof that she had lived before, but that she had loved him.

Running away from the memory of Drake’s hypnotizing touch, and the prophecy set before her seemed like the logical thing to do. That is, until a dark dream reignites her passion to save the hopeless dimension of Esterious. Willow struggles to find patience – to learn everything she needs to know before she faces Drake again, but her eagerness is dangerous and one step in the wrong direction takes everything and everyone away from her – the only way to survive this trial is for Willow to remember who she is and what she really wants out of this life.

Review: If the first book wasn't good this book meet the same expectations. Landen and Willow are once again faced with another trial about their love for each other. Within this book the plot does thicken and there a lot of more twist and turns to test their love.

In this book Drake does play a bigger role in the story, and you learn that there is more to Drake. He was not my favorite person in the first book, but you do begin to feel a little more sympathy for him.

Overall this was a great book too read. I absolute enjoy the love story between Landen and Willow. Also the love they share with their family and friends. Its not something we see in our society today, so it was nice to read a book where the characters are just genuinely kind and loving.

Description: There is an ominous darkness, one that that is so dense and mind numbing that you can feel the chills race across your skin as the energy of the hatred behind it hovers near you. They thought that it was over…that he was dead….they never imagined that he was more powerful dead than he ever was alive.
A war is on the brink of erupting in the  dark dimension of Esterious, the victory Willow had a few days ago was nothing less than vague memory. With each thought she has she fights the images of Drake’s dark eyes, his words… his promises. Doubt seeps into her soul as she stares forward and what could only be the hardest battle she has faced thus far.
Venus is meant to be the planet of love and peace….but when it falls into retrograde its influence changes. Matters of past relationships will surface; choices will be made with the mind and not the heart. Gateways to an evil that cannot be fathomed will open. Willow and Landen’s only defense is to hide their family away, and lock themselves in the palace that was once ruled by Donalt. The energy is heavy and dark within these walls…there is a presence that lingers and strikes at will. Cruel illusions are placed before Willow, but that is not even hardest part…what is hard is standing in room with Drake and Landen and listening to others tell you of lives that you cannot recall…for them to tell when and how you are going to die.
Every prediction and theory is about to be proven wrong…and the choice before Willow’s heart holds the lives of millions at stake. The question is will be she be able to see through the illusions before her and make a choice…she can live with?

Review: This series just got better for me in this book. Out of the three this one has to be my favorite so far. The suspense in this book was very high. I felt like I was on pins and needles while Landen and Willow were getting ready to start their next trial. I had so many emotions going through me while reading. I thought I had everything figured out and I get thrown off.

My love for these characters just grows so much in this book. You do discover more about Drake and his past in this book, and my dislike for him is officially gone. He is just a misunderstood character and people don't give him enough credit.

I'm very excited for the next book in the series. It had a great ending leading up to another trail, and I'm excited to find out what it is, and how will Willow and Landen over come it.

Bloodlines

Bloodlines by Richelle Mead

Release Date: August 23, 2011
Publisher: Razorbill
Pages: Hardcover (421pgs)
Age Group: YA
Genre: Paranormal/Vampires
Author Website:
Overall Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Description: The first book in Richelle Mead's brand-new teen fiction series - set in the same world as Vampire Academy.

When alchemist Sydney is ordered into hiding to protect the life of Moroi princess Jill Dragomir, the last place she expects to be sent is a human private school in Palm Springs, California. But at their new school, the drama is only just beginning.

Populated with new faces as well as familiar ones, Bloodlines explores all the friendship, romance, battles and betrayals that made the #1 New York Times bestselling Vampire Academy series so addictive - this time in a part-vampire, part-human setting where the stakes are even higher and everyone's out for blood.

Review: This was a great book to read. It brought me back to reading Vampire Academy. There was a scene toward the end of the book, I felt like I was reading Frostbite. I was great.  All the minor characters is Vampire Academy are not the front runners in this new series. I was kind of skeptical about it at first, but it turned out being great.

I was not a big fan of Sydney in the beginning, but now that she is the main character in the new series I actually enjoyed Sydney. This book was redemption for her in my eyes. One thing I was very disappointed about was Adrian in this book. I am Team Adrian all the way, and I absolutely loved him the VA series. I was just impressed with him at all. I'm hoping the Richelle wrote him this way because he is still heart broken over Rose, and he will improve in the other books to come.

I'm looking forward to what the series has in store. I enjoyed the love story in this book, and I already believe where the characters are going to go by the last book.

Immortal by Lauren Burd

Release Date: September 6, 2010
Pages: Kindle Edition
Age Group: YA
Genre: Fantasy/Paranormal

Overall Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Description: The wound inflicted only a few minutes before was nearly healed. A small cut was the only sign that anything had occurred. I watched in disbelief as it finished closing and eventually disappeared.
“What are you?”
* * *
Gods, demons, fiends, eighteen year old Alina Taylor doesn’t believe in any of them, until she meets Samuel Grant and Duncan Michaels, and discovers a world that could destroy everything she loves.

Review: This book was a gift from a very close friend. She was reading the book and told me that I just had to read it, and I understand why she told me to read it. This book was fantastic, and for Laurens first book she did a great job. I really enjoyed her writing style. It was an easy read and everything flowed perfectly. I did not have any trouble following along with the story.

The first thing I enjoyed about this book is that I share the same name as the main character so that drew me in immediately. This book also takes place in Gainsville, FL and I live in Tampa, FL. As I was reading I was imagining this was me and all these things were happening to me. The main male characters Samuel and Duncan are great. They are very handsome, and their eyes are very breath taking. Samuel is very old school. He is polite, has manners, and is every parents dream for their daughter's. Duncan on the other hand is a player, arrogant, and a bad boy. He is every girls bad boy that they cant stay away from. While reading this book in the beginning I was team Duncan and halfway through the book I quickly became team Samuel, but its hard not to love both boys though.

This book will throw you for a loop. In the beginning you think its going to be a book about a love triangle and then its completely goes to left field. Once you think you figured out that curve ball it goes to right field, and you are left with your jaw dropped saying to yourself "did that just really happen."

The Help

The Help by Kathryn Stockett

Release Date: February 10, 2009
Publisher: Amy Einhorn Books/Putnam
Pages: Hardcover (451pgs)
Age Group: Adult
Genre: Adult Fiction
Author Website: http://www.kathrynstockett.com
Overall Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Description: Twenty-two-year-old Skeeter has just returned home after graduating from Ole Miss. She may have a degree, but it is 1962, Mississippi, and her mother will not be happy till Skeeter has a ring on her finger. Skeeter would normally find solace with her beloved maid Constantine, the woman who raised her, but Constantine has disappeared and no one will tell Skeeter where she has gone.

Aibileen is a black maid, a wise, regal woman raising her seventeenth white child. Something has shifted inside her after the loss of her own son, who died while his bosses looked the other way. She is devoted to the little girl she looks after, though she knows both their hearts may be broken.

Minny, Aibileen's best friend, is short, fat, and perhaps the sassiest woman in Mississippi. She can cook like nobody's business, but she can't mind her tongue, so she's lost yet another job. Minny finally finds a position working for someone too new to town to know her reputation. But her new boss has secrets of her own.

Seemingly as different from one another as can be, these women will nonetheless come together for a clandestine project that will put them all at risk. And why? Because they are suffocating within the lines that define their town and their times. And sometimes lines are made to be crossed.

In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women - mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends - view one another. A deeply moving novel filled with poignancy, humor, and hope, The Help is a timeless and universal story about the lines we abide by, and the ones we don't.

Review: I love going to the movies, and when books are turned into movies, I am the type of person that needs to read the book first. I have seen this book countless of times in the store, but I never picked it up because it just didn't seem interesting. I saw the trailer for the movie, and I just had to read this book. Also, many of my friends said I need to read it. I am so glad I did. This book was amazing. It had me crying, laughing, and in goosebumps the whole time reading it. There was not one dull moment in this book, and I just couldnt put it down.

All the characters in this book were amazing. The wholesomeness of Aibileen, the sassy mouth on Minny, and the general concern Skeeter had for the help. This book brings to light the way things were in the 60's when segregation was a big part of day to day life. Even though it did sugar coat the reality of what African Americans had to deal with on a day to day basis, it still gave me goosebumps reading about it.

I would recommend this book to everyone. If you want a good laugh, cry, or a very cute love story, I highly recommend The Help.

Fangs for Nothing

Fangs for Nothing by Adrianne Ambrose

Release Date: June 21, 2011
Pages:
 Kindle Editon
Age Group: Young Adult
Genre: Paranormal

Author Website:
Overall Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Description: Grab some garlic and start sharpening your mother's wooden spoons because there are vampires living in the most unlikely of places.

I’ve always wanted to meet a vampire. Not to stake some poor bloodsucker as he sleeps in his coffin or have some sexy vampires bite me on the neck, but just to see a creature so rare and infamous. What can I say? Some people want to sail to Easter Island, others want to fling themselves out of an airplane, I want to shake hands with a vampire. Well, maybe I should prioritize getting a girlfriend first, but a vampire sighting is pretty high up on the list. Trust me, a lot of kids my age dream about it. Like my two best friends, Rini and Xander. We spent half the summer searching the most notorious cities in the United States for the undead, but so far, no luck.

That’s why it came as a total shock to discover a living, breathing vampire in our hometown of Cleveland, Ohio. (Okay, so he’s more undead and not breathing, but you get the picture.) At first we were kind of excited, but then pretty freaked because it turns out our new fanged friend has a hold on the city's teenage population and a specific thirst for their blood. Which, in a word—bites

Review: I really enjoyed reading this book. It was a great easy quick read. This is not your typical vampire story. I read a lot of vampire books and they all pretty much have the same story. This was very different, and it was very funny book. Also in your typical vampire book they suck the life out of their prey. In this book there is a different twist. It is something any girl can relate with.

I related to the main character Sherbie. He is the unpopular friend who is best friends with the most wanted boy in school. Sherbie had me laughing. He doesn't catch on to things right away, and it was funny to read his interaction with girls in the book.

Perfect

Perfect by Sara Shepard

Release Date: September 1, 2007
Publisher: Harper Collins Canada
Pages: Paperback (298pgs)
Age Group: Young Adult
Series: Pretty Little Liars #3
Genre:
 Mystery
Overall Rating:
5 out of 5 stars

Description: In a town where gossip thrives like the ivy that clings to its mansions, where mysteries lie behind manicured hedges and skeletons hide in every walk-in closet, four perfect-looking girls aren't nearly as perfect as they seem.
Three years ago, Spencer, Aria, Emily, Hanna, and their best friend Alison were the girls at Rosewood Day School. They clicked through the halls in their Miu Miu flats, tanned in their matching Pucci bikinis, and laughed behind their freshly manicured fingernails. They were the girls everyone loved but secretly hated—especially Alison.
So when Alison mysteriously vanished one night, Spencer, Aria, Emily, and Hanna's grief was tinged with . . . relief. And when Alison's body was later discovered in her own backyard, the girls were forced to unearth some ugly memories of their old friend, too. Could there be more to Alison's death than anyone realizes?
Now someone named A, someone who seems to know everything, is pointing the finger at one of them for Ali's murder. As their secrets get darker and their scandals turn deadly, A is poised to ruin their perfect little lives forever.

Review: I love this series. This is a great quick read. As I read this series, I can see this actually happening in high school. The mean girls in my high school would have done the things that A has done.

This book had me so entertained and I was sucked into it. After reading every chapter my jaw was dropped with the things that A was doing to the girls. I felt so bad for Emily getting outed to the whole school and her parents not being accepting. The relationship that is developing between Lucas and Hanna I absolutely love. I can't wait for the next book to find out more about them. Aria is also having the worst luck in this book. My heart goes out to her.

Demon Day by Penelope Fletcher

Release Date: June 2011
Publisher: Smashwords
Pages: ebook (297pgs)
Age Group: Young Adult
Series: Rae Wilder #2
Genre: Fantasy
Author Website:
Overall Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Description: Rae is falling into darkness...

Grieving the death of her friend at the hand of dark magics, Rae is full of hate and vengeance. Tracking Devlin and his followers across demon territory, she is forced to turn to the local shifter pack for help. Tricked into rescuing the pack Alpha’s daughters from the Temple, she learns there really is no place more dangerous than home.

Breandan the fairy is done being patient. He wants Rae to stand by his side and refuses any claim they are not destined to be. Unsure, Rae denies him the right to have her, but will the urges of her nature and the strength of their bond allow her to walk away? Then there is Tomas, the alluring vampire who needs her help. But what exactly does he expect of her, and is the cost of helping him worth turning her back on life itself?

Courted by the dark, and in love with the light, Rae must choose her path, or face the burden of Rupturing the world once more.

Review: I thought the first book was good. This one just took it to whole other level. The description is this book is fantastic. I was stressed out while reading this book because I felt everything that Rae was going through. By the end of the book you can tell Rae has grown and matured so much in this book.

Rae has a lot of struggles in this book because she has her bond with Breandan and a blood tie with Tomas. I feel for Rae because you can see she was trying to do the right thing and protect both guys. Also with her struggles to accept who she is supposed to be with only bits and pieces of her past being told to her. I was frustrated that her brother and her mate were only telling her information of her past on a need to know basis, but it kept me so engulfed in the book that I just needed to know more.

I have my idea on how the last book is going to turn out and I'm excited to read it and see how it turns out.
